In Britain our voice matters. We can take part in decisions that affect our country. We may not be able to vote until we are grown ups but we begin to understand democracy in different ways at school. The school council is one of these ways. We are democratically elected and are involved in making choices and decisions for our school.
We call this "People Power".
We have regular school council meetings where we discuss problems and help to make important decisions.
We help to look after our school, the environment and when we have new children we look after them and show them around our school.
School council introduced themselves to each other and we discussed our new role and responsibilities.
We spoke about how they became a school councillor by all children in their class having a democratic vote to make it fair. Then we took some individual photos for our school display and everyone explained why they will make a good school council member.
Today we joined the British Value Ambassadors to talk about Harvest Festival. We discussed what Harvest Festival is and how we can help. As a school we collect food to take to the food bank. A school councillors and British Values Ambassadors, we made posters to stick up at our classroom door for our adults to see.
