    Music

    Appraise, Compose, Perform!

Music plays an important part in all our lives forging important links between the home, school and the wider world.  We regard it as a powerful tool to enhance learning throughout the whole of the school curriculum, as well as specifically developing musical skills and knowledge for music specifically.

Music can engage, inspire and aid pupil learning and pupil wellbeing-  energising, relaxing and enhancing moods. It also aids communication in children, developing crucial speaking and listening skills, promoting self-esteem and self-confidence, a sense of group identity, togetherness and an opportunity to develop skills, attitudes and attributes that can support learning throughout the curriculum.

A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talents as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to music.

Sing Up Music is a foundation to deliver a creative, varied, and engaging programme of high quality classroom music that sets out the knowledge, skills and understanding to be gained by all pupils at each stage of learning, including Early Years Foundation Stage. Sing Up Music takes an integrated approach to musical learning, and together the units represent a complete, and progressive library of resources that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum for Music and suggested approaches of the Model Music Curriculum. We use the Sing Up programme to deliver the Music curriculum across school.

    Music at Pinewood

Our vision for Music for our children is to:

We want children to enjoy listening to a wide range of music and broaden their experiences in musical genres, inspiring them to be inquisitive about musical instruments and to engage critically with what they hear. We want children to hear music with their ears and their hearts. We want them to develop language skills through song and to become confident singers as they progress through school. We want to give children opportunities to perform and to be proud of their accomplishments. Each month we will have a genre focus. These range from reggae, to classical to R&B and much more. The children listen to the genres and discuss likes and dislikes.

    Rock Steady

Rock Steady is a music club that is accessed by many children across school. They are an outside provider who employ passionate musicians, who visit school weekly to teach and deliver high-quality lessons using a range of instruments and vocals. The children form bands and once a term they perform on stage for parents, carers and the  whole school community.

    African Drumming

An outside provider came into school to teach our children about African drumming during their learning based around Africa. The children all experienced drumming, chanting and singing to the rhythm and the beat.

    Christmas Light Switch on

In December 2024, our children were invited to perform on stage in front of our Arnold Community at the annual Arnold Lights Christmas Switch on. The children performed Christmas songs from their Christmas Concert and ended on the traditional carol 'Away in a Manger'. We can't wait for this to happen again next year!
